Sports Fund will ensure equity allocation — Prof. Anim-Wright
The Ghana Sports Fund has pledged to ensure fair and equitable allocation of resources across Ghana’s sporting ecosystem, as the Fund seeks to move the country away from unpredictable and uneven sports financing.

Chairperson of the Ghana Sports Fund, Prof. Koryoe Anim-Wright, also known by the stool name Naa Ashong Ababio I, Dzaasenye of Abola, said the Fund, established under the Ghana Sports Fund Act, 2025 (Act 1159), is to provide sustainable financing for sports development and sport for development, while ensuring transparency and accountability. The Fund is overseen by an 11-member board comprising representatives from government, finance and sports administration.
“Every cedi that comes into this Fund has a destination, and every cedi that leaves it has to be accounted for,” Prof. Anim-Wright stated.
She said the Fund would support infrastructure, athletes and para-athletes, coaches and administrators, grassroots and school sports, national teams, research and innovation, as well as the welfare of retired and injured athletes.
The engagement brought together the Fund’s Administrator Dr David Wuaku, Deputy Administrator Simon Appiah, Deputy Director Vida Adombiri-Naba, the General Secretary and executives of the GJA, members of the press and other stakeholders.
Administrator Wuaku revealed that the Minister for Finance will announce seed money for the Ghana Sports Fund in the 2027 National Budget, providing the initial financial foundation for the Fund to fully begin delivering on its mandate.
This has already been confirmed by President John Mahama in a meeting with Ghanaian clubs representing the country in continental competitions at the Jubilee House in Accra on Wednesday.
